This 4-person panel includes DCs and non-DCs speaking about how to get involved in sports medicine, their experience with a variety of sports at various levels, as well as their thoughts on the future of sports medicine. Join us as we hear from docs who work with the NFL, MLB and the Olympics as well as the Athletic Training Director from Kansas State University. This should be a great forum and lunch will be provided.

Speaker Bios

Dr. Patrick Hammond

Dr. Patrick Hammond graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 1997. He practiced in Westwood, Kansas until 2003 when he opened Hammond Chiropractic Center in June of 2003.

Each year, Dr. Hammond attends many professional courses to advance his capabilities. Learning new treatment methods and techniques allows him to give each patient a more accurate diagnosis and better, faster results.

It also enables him to serve his patients as a more thoroughly trained doctor.

Dr. Hammond is a past chiropractic consultant for the Kansas City Brigade and Kansas City Comets. He is presently a chiropractic consultant for Kansas City Royals.

Member of the Kansas Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association.

Member of the Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce and Shawnee Rotary.

Member of Care of Elite & Professional Athletes (CEPA).

 

Dr. Vardiman

Dr. Phil Vardiman

Dr. Vardiman is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Athletic Training Program at Kansas State University. He received his undergraduate degree from Park University, his Masters from Oklahoma State University, and his PhD from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Vardiman is a member of the USA Track and Field Sports Medicine Team and served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru for USA Track. Dr. Vardiman works for the National Football League as the Team Lead AT Spotter for Arrowhead Stadium. Dr. Vardiman currently serves as the President for the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society and is a board member for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Convention Programming Committee. Dr. Vardiman’s research focus is the human response to exercise and therapeutic clinical interventions on muscle quality and physical performance measures. Dr. Vardiman enjoys spending time with his wife Bethany, and his daughters Rylie and Hailey.

 

Dr. Anne Sorentino

Dr. Anne Sorrentino is a Diplomate in Sports Chiropractic (DACBSP®) practicing in McLean, Virginia, working with athletes from injury outset through all phases of healing.

In April 2014, Dr. Sorrentino was honored with the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™(ACBSP™) “Sports Chiropractor of the Year” Award.

Selected USA team sports chiropractor for the 2017 World University Games in Kazakhstan, she also worked with Pennsylvania Keystone Games, USA Track/Field Nationals and USA Archery.

After serving as President of the ACBSP™, she returned to teaching “Emergency Procedures,” “Soft Tissue,” and “Management of Extremities” for sports chiropractic physicians. She is a CPR instructor, EMT, OEC-certified, alumni ski patroller and ex-Pharmacist.

In 2013, Dr. Sorrentino joined WMI Global Inc., an international event management company covering risk, safety, emergency medical and rescue. WMI Global put her in the center of the extreme sports world. A Senior Medical Director, she works with CEO Rick Bahr developing safe, efficient methods for course extractions of injured athletes and injury management. She manages medical for national and international events of Summer and Winter Dew Tours, the Nitro Circus, UCI BMX Racing and Freestyle World Cups, World Skate and Street League Skateboarding, and previously Ragnar Relays.

 

Dr. Ryan Durand

Dr. Ryan Durand is the owner of Mission Wellness, a local Kansas City practice, in Mission KS.  He grew up in the New England area and is a graduate of Cleveland University where he received the honors of Magna Kum Laude. He specializes in Applied Kinesiology, flexion distraction, and diversified adjusting style.  He focuses on balancing the muscles and joints of the body in order to promote optimal health of both the body and mind.  He believes that true health and happiness comes from maintaining proper balance with their environment and lifestyle which includes chiropractic treatment as a vital component to maintaining optimal neurological function.

Ryan has a passion working with people of all ages from Infant to grandparent.  His background in sports created a true passion for athletes.  Ryan was an NFL offensive lineman for the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs.  He enjoyed 5 seasons in the NFL with his first start against the Dallas Cowboys.

He received his Bachelors in exercise science from Syracuse University where he was a three-year football starter and received All-American and Big-East academic awards every season. He stays in the game through coaching at Shawnee Mission North High School where he is the defensive line position coach.
